Element Photography

We had talked about getting our passport done for months, almost, but not quiet as long as we had talked about snapping some “feel good” photos.  Meet my girlfriend Karen. What started off as a simple trip to get our passports re-newed turned into a full day adventure of hunting for vintage finds, crossing our fingers to win a weekend in Vancouver to see the Black Eyed Peas, quick stops at our favorite shops, and great conversation! Karen is such a sweet heart, the kind of girl that goes out of her way for you, laughs with you and shares stories that pull on your heart stings. 2009 was a tough year for this little love.  But Karen is a resilient woman, and her love for her friends, and her God have helped her through the tough bits. When she brought up the idea of a lil’ photo sesh of course I jumped at it, who wouldn’t just look at those eyes! And while we didnt know quite where the day would lead we couldn’t help but pull over when we saw this wild orange couch with a sign that read “free” sitting on the side of the road!  Go ahead and share some love and support on the blog for this sweet thing, afterall who couldn’t use a little love??

When I was home in Manitoba for a quick visit in February I was lucky to catch up with Randy his wife Shelley and their brand new baby girl Isabella Olive! This adorable little girl was only 6 weeks old at our impromptu shoot as friends watched the Canada vs. US gold medal hockey game!  We had a great time together catching up. As I write Im reminded of what a treasure great friendships are, the kind that go the distance even though  your not always there to nuture them. Randy and I have been friends for a long, long time. Over 10 years now!  Randy often participated in fun friday photoshoots during my earlier days behind the lense, but he didn’t seem to mind as long as it involved coke and dill pickle chip rewards! Ahhh to be 16 again.  Its been such  blessing to get to know these two as they have grown in their relationship! And lucky for me to count Randy and Shelley as great friends!

I’ve been poking away at my HUGE collection of photos from my trip to Austrailia LAST Spring. I know, Im the worst! Its coming up to a year since my depature day and I am finally nearing the end of all the sorting and editing. I can really appreciate the pictures now as I work through them, what a great reminder of how much fun we had in the land down under. I will be going back, one day soon. And Im bringing Malcolm with me next time!  For now just two images to show off Byron Bay from the famous Lighthouse at 530 am sunrise. After forcing my trusty sidekick and best gal Rachelle to jump on a shotty old bike, we borrowed from the hostel. We ventured our from under our warm covers at 4am. With flashlights we fumbled around, picked 2 of the sturdiest bikes we could find and started to pedal and pedal. Up hill all the way (coming home was WAY more fun)!! To the point where we had to get off and push. Yes push, there were all these super athletes jogging past us…I guess thats what 6 weeks of holiday will do to you. We laughed so hard I thought I would die. And we finally made it, through the rain showers and all. And the views were soooo worth it.
