we travelled to San Francisco for a quick weekend get-away and to check a BIG item off our bucket list – see the ROLLING STONES on their 50th anniversary tour! As luck would have it we were able to score $85 tickets as 1000 seats in the arena were released at this ridiculous steal of a deal (regular priced tickets started at $200). We were ecstatic to say the least. M is a long long time fan pretty much exclusively to the stones, and well a few country artists too. We spent an evening sampling various food carts at famous fisherman’s wharf – clam chowder sourdough bread bowls – my personal favorite. The next morning we hit up Alameda to check out the Northern Cali’s largest antique flea market.  It was a joy to wander through the vendors all 800+ of them! Alameda did not disappoint! my only regret is that we didnt have a UHAUL truck + trailer!! ugh a wee bit painful to leave some of those treasures behind but next time i’ll be ready ; )

We rented bicycles and toured various districts of San Fran. We shoppped at Anthro. We saw the golden gate bridge. We reminsed about our full house days.

we rocked our socks right off with the Stones. we danced. we sang along with every song.

snapped from my iphone (above)

so tell me what’s your all time favorite Stones song??

Holidays 2012 looked like this

For the record, this is probably the first time Ive seen my brother in camo.  The holidays really came together for M and I when my family announced mid-way through December that they would be joining us from Manitoba on the island for New Years. I was so so happy, the holidays just are not the same with out them!! We had 5 days filled with full on family time.  Together we toured the impressive Butchart Gardens holiday displays, to a good old forest tromp, sizing up trees larger than most of us had ever seen, enjoying the thick moss and luscious ferns and even spying on some local Roosevelt Elk, a walk to the Kinsol Tressel, we walked the streets of downtown Victoria and sampled coffee on every corner, and rang in the New Year with a wild game of Dutch Blitz!

I like to hug the maintenance man at Butchart.

Why did M have to wear this coat to Butchart?!? He couldn’t stand in one spot for too long before someone would ask him “where are the bathrooms?”.

classic islander get up. we are converting him – slowly…

I have some major, major love for the newest member of my family! My cousin Julie’s sweet baby girl Emily – 5 months old and first time playing in the leaves! Play time captured on my parents back 40 over Thanksgiving weekend. As an honorary Aunt E (hehe ‘auntie’) I sooo enjoy my time with her, and although I can’t be there all the time we do our best to make the most of the time that we do have. For this wee one I am so thankful!

Feels like summer flew by in the blink of an eye. M and I managed to squeeze in some camping trips, visits to the Okanagan and relaxing days on the ocean. Sometimes I feel like as a photographer I get so wrapped up in the work I do for others I rarely get to photograph our day-to-day’s. This fall Im slowing down a bit (read: to the speed of regular folk), I look forward to finding a routine, photographing my family and travelling with family and friends. And so at long last, a little look into our life an evening from last week! Note – we look a we bit tired and hairy in these photos…but hey thats real life! It was a hectic couple of weeks!

My dad mowed our Manitoba back 40 on Christmas Eve. Just because he could. An out-of-the-blue decision turned out to be a family affair and so much fun! Fired up the old Cockshutt 20, with his family cheering him on and not a speck of snow to be seen –  he was happier than seagull with a french fry!

Look at that grin!! I love my dad, he’s the best : )

i’m loving all the goal setting i read about online in early January. Something so refreshing about it all. So I decided to start my own! With the new year kicking off with a big move to Vancouver Island, new jobs for M + myself things are off to a rockin’ sort of DREAM BIG start. and we love it! Cassandra + Ken

November 10, 2011

Filed under just for fun, M and me., she said yes!

Cass + Ken sweet couple from Vernon who I met a few years back on the streets of Osoyoos. A fun loving couple always up for an adventure, were always looking for an opportunity to bring Malcolm + I to famous Douglas Lake Ranch where the two of them grew up! Douglas Lake Ranch is Canada’s Largest Working Cattle Ranch. With a current cattle herd of approximately 20,000 head. It was established way back in 1884 and is a sprawling half a million acres. Loads of history in all the buildings and landmarks. Ken used to cowboy on the ranch and was eager to show us the sites! We jumped at the opportunity a few weekends ago and toured the home ranch, visited with Ken’s family and made our way into the back 40 – errr – 400 000 to send the night huddled up in a historic cowboy bunker. We got the fireplace roaring, broke out the table games, lit the propane lamps and had such a great time!

I’ll also mention that  Cassandra + Ken celebrated their 5th wedding anniversary the summer!! So naturally some photos to mark the occasion : ) these two – just beautiful, in and out.

Our wedding was featured as a top finalist in the RW & co we do, weddings contest! Hip hip hurray!!

Please help us win by submitting your vote here on the RW & co website! Look for Malcolm and his mighty men

Thanks so much!
